Moving from Jekyll to Hugo

Introduction I needed to update some pages on my blog and while looking at it, it feels a bit stale. The site design hasn’t really changed in nearly 15 years. The only real update was in 2019, when I switched from WordPress to Jekyll. They were minor changes and made to accommodate moving to Jekyll. Otherwise, this blog has looked and acted essentially the same for all these years. Wanting to update the style also meant I should take the time to update things like Javascript libraries, Jekyll plugins and what not....

Moving From WordPress to Jekyll

Introduction When I first started this blog back in 2008 I hosted it myself using an Arch Linux instance with Linode. For the blogging platform I used WordPress MU because it was, and still is, one of the most popular blogging platforms. At that time the MU version was how multiple domains (subdomains) were supported on a single installation. Later it was merged into standard WordPress. It was easy to use and Administer....

SSL Only

I’ve made my blog and other personal sites SSL only starting today. Other sites I maintain such as Sigil’s site isn’t impacted by this decision. At this point it’s a recommended practice. Due to this I’ve decided to go with SSL only connections here. Note: I’m using the term SSL because it’s the common way to define may types of secure internet connections. At work we often see customers who don’t understand this (not everyone is an internet or security expert)....

My nginx SSL Configuration with WordPress Using Domain Mapping

Introduction If it’s not obvious I use WordPress for my (this) blog. It is a Multi-Site setup so I can use the same installation for other blogs (wife) and sites (personal/professional) I host. I also use the WordPress MU Domain Mapping plugin to assign specific domains to certain sites that are separate from the nachtimwald blogs. For the longest time I’ve used a self signed SSL certificate to protect logins. The cert wasn’t specifically tied to a particular domain and has been expired for years....

WPMU OpenID and SSL

It’s no secret that I’m using Wordpress MU for this website. It makes it very easy to keep the main site as well as my and Tati’s blogs updated. Recently I’ve been wanting to continue properly securing the blogs and added HTTPS support as well as Yubikey required logins. Once that was in place my next goal was to get OpenID integrated with the sites again. This way the blogs can be used as our OpenID identify....

Long time no see

It’s been a while since I’ve made any posts. Mainly work and other matters have kept me away. I haven’t been working on very much recently. This isn’t to say my participation with calibre has been abandoned. I’m still making regular bug fixes. I’ve also been working on a rather large change that is coming along much slower that I would like. Mainly metadata caching and muli way syncing. I was shooting for the end of March to complete the changes but it might not be done until the end of April....
